Christmas!

Yes, being 13,000 km from home and in the middle of a heatwave was never going to make for the most joyful Christmas, but we tried our best, and suceeded in keeping alive a couple of Christmas traditions; eating to bursting point and drinking strange concoctions that you wouldn´t normally look at. We were staying at Hostel Las Salamandras, which was a perfect spot and about as Christmassy as we were going to get, in a pine forest in a log cabin with a lovely wood burner.

After breakfast, we walked into town and phoned home for the first time on the trip, which was brilliant. Although strange that England´s Christmas Day was almost over, and ours was just beginning!

We woke up on Christmas morning, and we gave each other such presents as we had been able to purchase on the sly over the last few days, with such feeble excuses as needing to go to the cash point, or in my case just saying on Christmas Eve, that I had ´something to do´, unspecified, that Rich couldn´t come along to, but would take 15 minutes.

In the absence of turkey, we made do with sausages and mash, and roasted veg. In defence of the below, the plates were actually very small....

Then we played cards and tried to make Pisco Sours but ended up drinking strong, sugary, lemony sprits. But perhaps that´s what they´re suposed to taste like? Finished the day with a few games of cards. Lovely. But next year I want to be at home please.
